RustFS — S3-compatible high-performance object storage in Rust (Apache 2.0)

trending-repo HIGH
RustFS is an open-source, S3-compatible distributed object storage system written in Rust, claiming 2.3x faster throughput than MinIO for 4KB object payloads. Released under Apache 2.0 (no AGPL restrictions like MinIO). 24,326 stars, actively maintained (last push April 7, 2026). Supports migration from MinIO and Ceph. Positioned as an AI-native storage layer for data lakes and big data workloads. Includes a Kubernetes operator, Next.js web management console, and S3-compatible CLI. Direct replacement candidate for any S3-compatible storage ODS might need for DocStore, PDF Engine artifact storage, or Debezium offset storage.

ODS Impact

DocStore (artifact storage), PDF Engine (generated PDFs), Billing Engine (invoice storage), and Debezium CDC offset storage. RustFS could replace or supplement GCP Cloud Storage with a self-hosted, on-VPS S3-compatible layer — aligning with ODS cost governance on GCP VPS fleet. Evaluate for srv-staging as a MinIO/GCS alternative.
